No BS,
All-Encompassing

Pilates has a good and a bad reputation. We know it makes you stronger and can give you killer abs if you’re already lean, but because the marketing only shows certain types of bodies, folks believe you already have to be thin and fit to benefit from Pilates. That’s so far from the truth.

Listen, we get it. We’ve been there.

You were an athlete.

You lost weight.

You gained weight.

You had an injury.

You have a chronic condition.

All of these things—along with stress and lifestyle—change how you move and live in your body.

You adapt to slumped shoulders because you don’t realize you’re slumped over and headed toward kyphosis (severe spinal curvature). And if you’re told that you’re kyphotic, you assume there’s nothing to be done about it.

Pilates is the solution for living in the modern world. So said Joseph Pilates.

Once you become aware of your natural alignment, you’ll be able to move better and gain agency over your body and health. And that’s our mission.

To educate. To train. To help you live better in your body. Our studio is designed to provide you with peace, calm and a center where you can focus on moving your body without judgment. That’s pretty Radical. And that’s what Radical Change Pilates & Wellness is all about.

Be prepared for a different setup. Minimal equipment. Minimal music. And most radical: no mirrors. We have no mirrors so you can FEEL alignment in your specific body—not the mirroring of alignment that often happens when you look in a mirror.

CO-OWNER/CO-FOUNDER, STUDIO DIRECTOR

I have 30+ years of experience in massage, skin care, fitness training, education and coaching. I opened this studio in order to showcase how life-changing and life-affirming pilates can be in your life. It has literally saved me from being in a wheelchair and with our Plantbased coaching, teacher training, group and private sessions and infrared sauna, we desire to be the example of living well over 50 can look like with consistent movement and intention choices.

Growing up on the East Coast in the ‘70s and ‘80s, I was raised on red dye #40 and sugar, AKA Kool-Aid. My parents were professionals. In fact, my mother was a pediatric nurse. However, nutrition wasn’t something we talked about in those days. I played sports throughout elementary and high school, during my time at university and then while I was in the US Navy. Still, nutrition was not really discussed. By my mid-30s, I had two children and weighed well over 200 pounds. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition in 2009—and in a lot of pain.

I was raised in a house where the food additive of choice was wheat germ. Wheat germ in the pancake batter. Wheat germ in the soup. Wheat germ in everything. No sugar was allowed in our house. Long before I arrived, my parents ran a health food store in Portland, OR in 1946. My dad’s mom, Lucy, was an Adventist. The word advent is the arrival of something notable. And I would say she was remarkable, raising six boys and a daughter. They called her magical. And she was the beginning of the healthful family line that grew me.
